Galette De Roi - Original French King Cake!

By Keon February 13, 2019

Galette de Rois is the French version of King Cake. It is a puff pastry filled with frangipane and it is served on January 6th which is the 12th day of Christmas, also known as Epiphany or Three Kings Day. My son and his classmates made a Galette de Rois at school and he was excited to make his own for his brothers, dad and I to try it. It is so easy to make that he was able to do most of the preparation by himself with very little help (mainly to measure ingredients and for the oven). Since in New Orleans we eat King Cake from January 6th until Mardi Gras Day, we wanted to share this easy recipe that you can make with your kids.

Ingredients

3 eggs

1 cup of granulated sugar

1 cup of almond flour

1 1/8 sticks of butter (melted)

2 sheets of puff pastry

Instructions

Mix all the ingredients except one 1 egg and the puff pastry.

Set the one sheet of puff pastry on a pan and fill with the mix.

Cover with second puff pastry sheet and press the borders to close

Separate the egg yolk and use it to brush over the top of the puff pastry sheet.

With a knife draw lines on the puff pastry sheet and make a hole in the middle of the puff pastry sheet (to let the heat out when in the oven)

Put it in the oven for 20-25 minutes at 375°
