Jefferson Parish Public Schools System has 4 types of school. Traditional Public Schools, Magnet Schools, Advance Studies Academies, and Charter Schools. You can find a brief description of each type of school and how to enroll your child. Please be sure to check details directly with Jefferson Parish Public Schools System
Traditional Public Schools.
These schools have strict district attendance zoning. Your student is assigned to a school in accordance to an attendance map based on your home address.
To find out which is your child’s assigned school, all you need to do is check here. To enroll, you must go to the school your child is assigned to with your documentation.
Magnet Schools.
These are schools that offer special programs not available at traditional public schools such as STEM, Language Immersion, Arts Integration and International Baccalaureate programs. These schools have a larger attendance district than traditional public schools.
To attend this type of school you must submit an application for your student. The application period is in the spring, usually between February and April of the previous school year.
If you are new to Jefferson Parish your child may still be able to apply to a magnet program but will only receive placement if there are seats available and no waitlist at the magnet school you are zoned for. Your student must not have attended a Jefferson Parish public school in 2020-21 school year or currently attending in 2021-22 school year.
Advanced Studies Academies
These schools are designed to expose the most highly capable students to a challenging, rigorous, and accelerated curriculum. They focus on high potential students who gain admission through ASA admission process. These schools have a broader zoning district.
The admission process includes submitting an application for student admission testing. Advanced Study Academies and Ruppel Academie Francaise applications open Wednesday, September 7 through Wednesday, October 5, 2022

To be eligible for Advanced Studies Academy admissions: (1) All students must meet age and residency requirements; (2) Students entering grades 6-12 must meet a core GPA requirement of 2.5 for their previous two years in school; and (3) All students must score in the 85th percentile or higher on the ASA admissions test. Please review the ASA Admissions and Dismissal Policies and Procedures for complete admissions requirements. This document will soon be available in Spanish, Arabic and Vietnamese.

Charter Schools
Charter schools are publicly funded independent school established by teachers, parents, or community groups under the terms of a charter under the Jefferson Parish School Board. They are open to all Jefferson Parish residents and have no zoning districts.
If you are interested in applying to a charter school, you must contact the charter school directly for information about how to apply. If a charter school has more applicants than seats, they must hold a lottery to determine admission and assign their seats.
State Authorized Charter Schools
These are open-enrollment charter schools that accept students from any parish in the state. Most State authorized charter schools located in our area, participate in the New Orleans Public Schools NCAP. Even if you live in Jefferson Parish, you may need to apply to these schools using the NCAP.
