Traditional Public Schools.

These schools have strict district attendance zoning. Your student is assigned to a school in accordance to an attendance map based on your home address.

To find out which is your child’s assigned school, all you need to do is check here. To enroll, you must go to the school your child is assigned to with your documentation.

Magnet Schools.

These are schools that offer special programs not available at traditional public schools such as STEM, Language Immersion, Arts Integration and International Baccalaureate programs. These schools have a larger attendance district than traditional public schools.

To attend this type of school you must submit an application for your student. The application period is in the spring, usually between February and April of the previous school year.

If you are new to Jefferson Parish your child may still be able to apply to a magnet program but will only receive placement if there are seats available and no waitlist at the magnet school you are zoned for. Your student must not have attended a Jefferson Parish public school in 2020-21 school year or currently attending in 2021-22 school year.

Advance Studies Academies.

These schools are designed to expose the most highly capable students to a challenging, rigorous, and accelerated curriculum. They focus on high potential students who gain admission through ASA admission process. These schools have a broader zoning district.

The admission process includes submitting an application for student admission testing. Applications period begins October 11, 2021 to November 5th, 2021 at 5:00pm. Applications can be found on this link here , at all JPPS schools, at JPPSS administration building at 501 Manhattan Blvd Harvey, and at the Paul Emenes Building at 822 Clearview Parkway in Harahan.

If you are new to Jefferson Parish your child may still be able to apply to an Advance Studies Academies program but will only receive placement if there are seats available and no waitlist at the magnet school you are zoned for. Currently there are no seats available for the 2020-21 school year. Your student must not have attended a Jefferson Parish public school in 2019-20 school year or currently attending in 2020-21 school year.

Charter Schools

Charter schools are publicly funded independent school established by teachers, parents, or community groups under the terms of a charter under the Jefferson Parish School Board. They are open to all Jefferson Parish residents and have no zoning districts.

If you are interested in applying to a charter school, you must contact the charter school directly for information about how to apply. If a charter school has more applicants than seats, they must hold a lottery to determine admission and assign their seats.

State Authorized Charter Schools

These are open-enrollment charter schools that accept students from any parish in the state. Most State authorized charter schools located in our area, participate in the New Orleans Public Schools NCAP. Even if you live in Jefferson Parish, you may need to apply to these schools using the NCAP. You can check out our Guide to Navigate the New Orleans Public School NCAP process to learn more about this process. Please contact each school to find out exactly how to apply for a seat.
