Brain Candy Live Review

By Suzette Wilkinson March 24, 2017

Have you heard about Brain Candy Live? Well, I had not until I was offered tickets last week for the show that was coming to The Saenger on March 22, 2017. I quickly did a search and came across braincandylive.com. I went on to check videos by both Adam Savage and Michael Stevens to get a better grasp about what to expect. Soon I realized, “Hey I have seen these guys in action on videos. Adam Savage is the guy from Mythbusters and Michael Stevens is VSauce! This show is probably going to to be really interesting, fun and educational all at once.” Needless to say, I accepted the tickets and told the kids we were going to see Brain Candy Live! They were ecstatic. Jack squealed, “We are going to go see a show with the guys who built the gigantic Nerf gun?” So, even though mama was unsure of what Brain Candy was, the kiddos knew pretty well.

By now, you may still be wondering, what is Brain Candy Live? Well, it is a 2 hour interactive show where Adam Savage and Michael Stevens perform live demonstrations of several scientific concepts. The official website describes it as “Adam and Michael’s Brain Candy Live experience is like a two-hour playdate with Walt Disney, Willy Wonka and Albert Einstein.”

Brain Candy Live certainly did not disappoint and definitely exceeded my expectations. It is one of the best family friendly shows I have ever attended. My children were completely immersed and engaged during the show. My 9 and 12 year olds were fascinated by the facts and demonstrations. We all felt part of the show, not simply spectators. My children were eager to ask and answer questions. Without knowing it, my kids were learning while they had an extremely fun night. Even my 3 year old son was amazed by the “tricks” as he called the demonstrations. My 9 year old was so enthusiastic he earned himself and his brother meet and greet passes.

I can honestly say I highly recommend this show to everyone. It is not only entertaining but educational. While they only had one show in New Orleans, Brain Candy Live is on tour and still has shows in other cities. I would say it is worth a road trip! For the list of cities check braincandylive.com. For me personally, I am hoping they will do another tour and come share some new demonstrations and all the fun with us in New Orleans.
