Parades, Parties and Altars

March brings a new opportunity to enjoy outdoors and celebrate with family and friends. There is no shortage of fun to be had. All around the Greater New Orleans including the Westbank. Block parties, parades and St. Joseph Altars to celebrate St. Patrick's Day and St. Joseph. Family friendly fun!

Here is a list of parades and block parties coming up to celebrate St. Patrick's Day:

ST. PATRICK'S PARADES

Irish Channel Parade - Saturday March 11 at 12:30 p.m.
The Irish Channel St. Patrick's Day Club will hold its 66th Annual Mass and Parade celebration at St. Mary's Assumption Church (corner of Constance and Josephine Streets) followed by the parade (corner of Jefferson and Magazine)

Italian-American St. Joseph's Parade in the French Quarter - Saturday March 18 at 6:00p.m.
To celebrate St. Joseph the Italian American Club will hold a parade through the French Quarter. The parade starts at 6 p.m. at the intersection of Convention Center Blvd. and Girod Street. 16 floats, and 9 marching bands.

St. Patrick's Day Parade on Metairie Road - Sunday March 12 at 12 Noon
The annual Metairie Road St. Patrick's Day begins at noon in front of Rummel High School on Severn Avenue, goes down Severn to Metairie Road, then Metairie Road to the parish line.

Louisiana Irish-Italian Parade (Metairie) Sunday March 20 at 12 Noon
The Louisiana Irish Italian Parade will roll on the traditional Veterans Highway route in Metairie.

St. Bernard Irish Italian Islenos Parade Sunday April 16 at 11 a.m.
St. Bernard Irish Italian Islenos Community Parade & Marching Club will roll down Judge Perez Drive, Chalmette and Arabi with 43 floats, 1,500+ members and 300,000 pounds of produce.

OTHER ST. PATRICK'S DAY CELEBRATIONS

Parasol's Block Party Celebration - March 11 and March 17 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.

On 3rd and Constance. There will be music, green beer, food and surprises.

ST. JOSEPH ALTARS


Christ The King School, 2106 Deerfield Road, Terrytown: March 17, viewing 9 a.m.-3 p.m., with blessing at 9 a.m.

Our Lady of Prompt Succor, 531 Avenue A, Westwego: March 19, 11 a.m. Mass followed by altar blessing in cafeteria and meals served at 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
 
Our Lady of the Angels, 6851 River Road, Waggaman: March 19, 10 a.m. altar blessing with viewing and meals 11 a.m.-7 p.m. including Des Allemands fried catfish, spaghetti with fennel, vegetable casseroles, homemade Italian bread, cakes, Italian cookies. Blessed St. Joseph candles, stuffed artichokes and Italian cookies available for a donation.
 
St. Anthony of Padua, 234 Angus Dr., Luling: March 19, altar blessing following 10:30 a.m. Mass with viewing until 4 p.m. March 20, viewing 6 a.m.-5 p.m. with meals at 11:30 a.m.

St. Charles Borromeo, 13396 River Road, Destrehan (Borromeo Room): March 18, opens with 2 p.m. Tupa Tupa depicted by students, viewing to 7 p.m. March 19, 8 a.m. Mass in church, procession to Borromeo Room to open altar 9 a.m.-7 p.m. St. Joseph’s Altar Society sponsors.
 
St. Cletus, 3600 Claire Ave., Gretna (Jerome Hall): March 18, 6:30 p.m. rosary followed by blessing, viewing until 8 p.m. March 19, viewing 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., food served until runs out.

St. Joseph Church and Shrine Altar in St. Joseph complex, 7th and Newton streets. Sponsored by church, prepared by St. Joseph Women’s Club. March 18, 6 p.m. rosary procession followed by prayer service, altar viewing till 7:30 p.m. March 20, solemn 10:30 a.m. Mass, follwed by blessing and meals served from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

 
St. Joseph the Worker, 455 Ames Blvd., Marrero: March 19, altar in the hall with 8:30 a.m. blessing and viewing from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

St. Thomas, (Altar at Assumption of Our Lady Mission), 6951 Hwy. 39, Braithwaite: March 18, blessing at 4 p.m.; March 19, doors open at 12 p.m. to 4pm.


ROUSES MARKETS 91 Westbank Expressway, Gretna will present St. Joseph altars March 16-19.
