Monster Jam at the Mercedes Benz Super Dome

Sponsored Review

By Suzette Wilkinson January 30, 2017

Monster Jam was at the Mercedes Benz Super Dome this weekend and my family had the opportunity to attend. My three year old son asked all week if it was the day to go to Monster Jam. He was so excited and could barely wait. This year, my husband and I ventured to bring along our three children and 3 of their friends. All the boys, ranging in ages 9-12 and my 3 year old had a great time watching the Monster Trucks! We surveyed them after the show and their favorite Monster Trucks were Scooby Doo, Grave Digger, Toro Loco Max D and Fluffy. They loved being able to judge each truck's performance by casting their vote to the website.

The Monster Trucks that performed this weekend in New Orleans were Grave Digger driven by Morgan Kane, Max-D driven by Tom Meents, Gas Monkey Garage driven by BJ Johnson, Lucas Oil Crusader driven by Linsey Weenk, Hooked driven by Bryan Wright, Avenger driven by Jim Koehler, Brutus driven by Brad Allen, Fluffy driven by Kevin King, Slinger driven by Scott Hartsock, Saigon Shaker driven by Ryan Disharoon, War Wizard driven by Shane Phreed, El Toro Loco driven by Chuck Werner, Scooby-Doo driven by Brianna Mahon, Stone Crusher driven by Steve Sims.

Lucas Oil Crusader won the racing championship, while Grave Digger won freestyle and the overall competition.

Monster Jam trucks are custom-designed machines that sit atop 66-inch-tall tires and weigh a minimum of 10,000 pounds, approximately 12 feet tall and about 12 feet wide. They are quite a sight! Built for short, high-powered bursts of speed, Monster Jam trucks generate 1,500 to 2,000 horsepower and are capable of speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. Monster Jam trucks can fly up to 125 to 130 feet (a distance greater than 14 cars side by side) and up to 35 feet in the air.

Monster Jam is definitely one of my family's favorite events. I honestly did not think I would enjoy it myself but after attending in 2016, I have to say I was looking forward to this year's Monster Jam, as much as my husband and our three sons! Monster Jam is an amazing and fun event for the whole family. My advice is be sure to bring some headphones to protect everyone's ears - the trucks are super loud.
